RealDownloader is not working in any youtube videos

napzter8
asked this on July 15, 2013 07:36

when i'm downloading a youtube video, after downloading it, the videos can't be played and i think there is a problem in the application of realdownloader, because when i try to download youtube videos on other application the file is bigger than the file where downloaded on realdownloader, example: on other application the file size is 100mb where is it the complete size of the file thats why the video can be played but in the realdownloader is 90mb only and can't be played because maybe the file is broken and the realdownloader reads the size incomplete even when you try it many times it's not working, please fix the problem. Thanks

I have RealPlayer Plus 16 and have similar error with regards to YT videos.  The download format with ReadPlayer Download was MP4.  When frist trying to play back noticed that no thumbnail image is generated for YT downloads, then get error "windows medi player cannot play the file.  the player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."  when using RealPlayer to playback video get error "A General Error has occurred." then the address for the video is displayed along w/ a link for more info from RealNetworks.

I took some screenshots showing the error messages, file format from downloads.

Prior to replying here, I had followed the suggested test download from Facebook of "Dave shows how to burn a sweet workout mix"

napzter8,

YouTube and other sites have introduced a new streaming standard. We are working on an update to
RealPlayer that will allow for this new format. When we have an update on the status of this issue, we will let you know and provide any instructions that may be necessary.

UPDATE: A compatibility issue was preventing some .mp4 files from playing in RealPlayer. Essentially, the files that are being downloaded are not actually MP4s but a new streaming format (DASH) that was being misidentified as MP4.

This issue has been fixed in the latest build of RealPlayer 16, released on August 21.

If you are currently using RealPlayer Plus 16 or the free version: Please open RealPlayer, click the RealPlayer logo in the upper left, and select Check for Update. You will then be able to update your RealPlayer to the newest build. Please note that you may need to re-enable the RealDownloader extension in your web browser as well.

If you are currently using RealPlayer Plus 15: Please contact Customer Support for additional instructions.

After updating RealPlayer, please re-download the videos that previously received the "General Error" message.

Please don't believe the excuse mp4 files have changed. I can download  utube and other vid. with other programs.

The free version of realplayer used to work at downloading just fine. Problem started when I upgraded to realdownloader

for $29.00.It just doesn't work.

I have uninstalled realdownloader, paid version, and reinstalled the free realplayer and guess what? I can download utube

vid again and every other format I have tried

I want my money back, ripoff.!!!!

kimeni,

Windows 8.1 comes with Internet Explorer 11, unfortunately RealDownloader is not compatible with it. Our technical team is aware of this issue and currently working on a fix. In the meantime, to download videos to RealPlayer using IE 11, you can uncheck Enhanced Protection Mode in Internet Properties by following Microsoft's instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2864914

gcbc1248,

It's perfectly understandable that you are very upset about what's happened, I am sure we never rip off our customers. YouTube has introduced a new streaming standard, Hence using RealDownloader Plus you can't download YouTube videos. This issue has been fixed in the latest build of RealPlayer 16, released on August 21 and that is why you are able to download YouTube videos using the free version of RealPlayer. Regards to your refund, I’ve sent a message to the email address associated with your account. Please respond and we’ll go from there.

Same problem here. I have Windows 8.1, so I guess IE 11.  It looks like RealPlayer downloads the video, but as soon as it does, I get the message:  RealDownloader has stopped working.  I checked  "Enhanced Protection Mode" and it was unchecked.  Any fix yet?

Our technical team is still working on this issue. However, try changing the download location in RealDownloader by following the steps below,

1) Click on Start Menu.
2) Select All Programs.
3) Search for RealNetworks.
4) Click RealDownloader.
5) It will open RealDownloader window.
6) Click on RealDownloader logo and then select preferences.
7) Click on ‘Browse’ button and select the location where you need to save the downloaded video files.
8) Select a preferred location and click ok.
9) Try to download the video again.

If that doesn't help let us know.

Hello. I've been trying to follow a few of the solutions in this thread, but there seems to be a slightly different problem with my RealDownloader. It will begin downloading videos, but then come up with the error message "Download incomplete. Refresh page and try again." I recently had to do a system restore on my computer, and RealDownloader was working fine prior to that. Is there something I can do to fix this? I need the downloader for classes, as I download videos when I have internet access so I can watch when I'm in a no-internet area. Thanks!

In the meantime, when you download a video if it says 'Download incomplete refresh the page.' Try downloading the same video again (Make sure you don't click clear list in RealDownloader).

Also ''Download This Video'' has limited compatibility with Google Chrome 31 and Internet Explorer 11. We're working to correct this in the next RealPlayer release later this fall. For some reason I no longer receive the "download this video" option.  I'm using the latest free Realplayer (ver. 16)  and Google Chrome (ver. 31).  I've enabled Realplayer in the Chrome Extensions.  I've also enabled pepflashplayer in the plugins.  I have also downloaded the latest Adobe Flashplayer. There was a message about some kind of "player" having crashed some time ago, but since I reinstalled Realplayer (ver. 16) I thought that would cover that particular problem.  I'm using Vista basic/home premium, 32-bit.  Any solutions?

Hey people, let's cut the RealPlayer folks some slack.  To all the folks griping and complaining (this means you Jeremy Robinson)... if you've ever written professional software-- and especially if you've ever had to deal with a major Windows update-- it ain't easy and it ain't overnight.  Windows 8 has caused more than the RealPlayer folks some serious problems.  It's totally incompatible with my perfectly good all-in-one Samsung laser printer (will someone tell me what it is about Micro$oft and Window$ 8 that it can't maintain backward compatibility with a laser printer?).   RealPlayer is trying to be compatible with at least FOUR different operating systems (Win XP, Vista, 7 and 8) and at least THREE different browsers (IE, Firefox and Chrome).  Does anyone think that's easy?   And what's with the rude insults and demands-- as if you actually PAID for the item, Jeremy? (I know you didn't just from the attitude.)

Look, RealPlayer folks may be too polite to call you people on the carpet, but I don't have to tolerate immaturity and emotional tantrums.  I happen to LIKE RealPlayer... and I happen to understand upgrading problems-- ESPECIALLY when it comes to Microsoft Windows.  I mean, the company can't even seem to maintain compatibility with their own products, much less Real Player keep up with the Windows 8 mess.

By far the best way to handle this is let the staff know when you find a problem, tell them exactly and in detail what you're experiencing... and then give them time to FIX it.   Badmouthing them and then expecting them to HELP ya is kinda dense, yknow?  It's going to take them more than a day or a week-- or in some cases a month or two-- to fix major updates.   Besides having to deal with mutiple version of Windows and multiple browsers... they also have to deal with changes to major websites such as YouTube (and there HAVE been major changes on YouTube, one just this week in how they handle video resolution picking).

So come on everyone, give the staff a break.  Rather than "shouting" at them... let them know in detail what you're experiencing, and then CO-OPERATE with them so they can fix it.   As a software engineer myself I can tell you:  coders work lots better when they're cheered on than when being cursed by ingrates.

RealPlayer and RealDownloader is FREE.  If you purchase it you get extra features and it's understandable one might be frustrated if it doesn't work just right and you've paid for it.  If that happens, contact 'em, work WITH 'em, give 'em time.  They'll get it.   From what I can see, they're one of the best video teams on the market, yes?

Rant done.

I just started having problems downloading from youtube in the last week. I have had Realplayer for what seems forever and always loved the program...until now.

Like all the others here I cannot play MP4 or downloaded from youtube that we use as tutorials.   Before I read all the issues posted here I had upgraded from Realplayer Plus 15 to 16.  It was a waste.  I have tried all the fixes and workarounds and it still will not work.  I have cleaned up IE9 and spent hours trying to get Realplayer 16 to perform  I have multiple playlists of videos and purchased music and do not want to uninstall and reinstall as it's my understanding all my playlists will be lost.  How do I go about getting a refund for my payment for 16?  I will just go back to 15 Plus and use what I have.

Has anyone here considered that the problem might be with YOUTUBE and not with any updates to Real products, or itunes, or anything else??

I can still download and convert videos from CNN, Vimeo, or Fox News.   YouTube has changed over the past couple of years if you folks haven't noticed.  Subtle changes to their interface, and...

Allowing uploaders to DRM or otherwise protect their uploaded content.

Folks I'm afraid it's all over regarding converting video from YouTube.  You'll have to get it elsewhere, or get your PC to video-out to a DVR and record off YouTube that way.

jeremy_robinson47,

The issues that prevented "Download This Video" from appearing in IE 11 and Chrome 31, and caused “Download incomplete” or “Unable to download” error messages, have been fixed in the new build of RealPlayer Cloud, released on Dec. 18 at 4:00 pm Pacific time.

>You can download this latest update from: www.real.com (Click on get RealPlayer Cloud free)

>After installing RealPlayer Cloud, follow this link to enable the RealPlayer Plugin in your web browser,

https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23689856

Note: RealPlayer Cloud is compatible with Windows 7 & 8 and available for customers located in the US & Canada.

If you are using Windows XP or Vista (living outside of the US and Canada), rest assured we will be making this fix available for RealPlayer 16 worldwide in early 2014.

Sorry the RealDownloader crashes!

Please provide some the following:

1. How long are you facing this issue?
2. Have you made any changes to your computer?
3. Are you using RealPlayer or RealDownloader?
4. If you're using RealPlayer, what is the version and build number of your RealPlayer?

To find them follow these steps:

1. Open the RealPlayer software.
2. From the RealPlayer menu in the upper left, choose "Help" option.
3. Choose "About RealPlayer" inside the "Help" menu. A window opens.
4. Provide the information listed beside "Version" near the top of the "About RealPlayer" window. These numbers indicate the version of RealPlayer currently installed on the computer (i.e. "RealPlayer 16.0.3.51" or "RealPlayer 17.0.4.61").

The more specific you are, the better I will be able to assist you.

My problem with Realdownloader is that it fails about 90% of the time when downloading from YouTube. The symptom is always the same...it's completes about 80% of the download and then says "Download incomplete. Refresh page and try again." It is not a problem with my laptop or network because I can always succeed in downloading the same video by using the Easy Video Downloader add-on to Firefox. I would prefer to use Realdownloader because I can quickly convert to MP3 and then go immediately into RealPlayer to trim the file if necessary. Sometimes...Realdownloader actually works, but most of the time it fails, always in the same mode.

I am no longer having an issue though there clearly is a glitch in the program for those of us using older versions of Windows.  When I download a video the first time it fails.  I keep the downloader window open and refresh the youtube webpage and download again.  After the download is complete it takes about a 30 seconds to a minute for it to process over to RealPlayer.  On the second and additional downloads at that same time the problem is no longer evident.  But if I come back the next day it repeats with the first download failing so I just refresh and do it again for the first video download.  It is the same if using just IE, Chrome or Firefox or opening the web browser within RealPlayer.  Bit of a pain but I can deal with it.

Sorry that you are having trouble with downloading videos.

I’m happy to report that the issues that prevented “Download This Video” from appearing in IE 11 and Chrome 31, and caused “Download incomplete” or “Unable to download” error messages, have been fixed in the new build of RealPlayer Cloud, released on Dec. 18 at 4:00 pm Pacific time.

Note: RealPlayer Cloud is now available for download in English from anywhere in the world, on PC (Windows 7 and higher), Android (4.0 or higher), iOS (5 or higher), and Windows 8 touch-screen devices. You can get this new build at no charge if you have already purchased RealPlayer 16.

To get the new build, please try uninstalling RealPlayer installed in your computer already by following this link:

https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23994572 (Make sure that you have deleted the folders as mentioned in the link.)

When you click uninstall, you will be asked to select which components you would like to uninstall:

Please uncheck "My Library" and "Favorites" and click OK.

Once done with uninstalling RealPlayer, try re-downloading the free version of RealPlayer by click on this link: http://www.real.com/

Next, to access the premium features, follow this steps:

https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23585297

At this point the logo in the upper left corner should indicate RealPlayer Plus and the premium features should be available. Enjoy!

Note: Please note that you may need to re-enable the browser plug-in. To do so, follow this link:

https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23689856

After that, try to download videos.

I can download just fine from keek.com, but not a single youtube video will work. They all say unable to download and it's been like this for weeks now. I have windows eight and my realplayer is updated. And I don't want to uninstall because I have downloaded videos in the past and I don't want to lose them. This is the second time in the last year that something has been wrong with downloading from youtube.

I also have all the new updates and I still get download incomplete from youtube. Even when it did work I had to go to Youtube from video search in Real Player to download anything. Old version would automatic ask If you wanted to download something. I am running Windows 8.

I have Windows 8.1 and Real Player 16.0.3.51. Real Player checks and says it is the latest version. A few You Tube videos will download fine but most say the it can't be downloaded or it is downloaded but there is no sound. Do you ever expect to get this problem fixed? I have been having a similar problem for months now despite Real Player assurances that the problem is "now" fixed.

Once again reiterate that the following issues have been fixed in the new build of RealPlayer Cloud, released at 4 pm Pacific time on Dec. 18.

In this case, I suggest you to uninstall and re-download RealPlayer using this link:

After that try to download videos.

Note: If you are running Windows XP / Vista, we will be making this fix available for RealPlayer 16 worldwide in early 2014.

The other night I got an e-mail telling me that my Cloud player was almost full and they wanted to sell me some more space. I didn't want to obligate myself to more money each month so i deleted 2,000 files from the Cloud Player. After I download it wants to upload. I've never had that before. Why does it have to download and upload fro me to see a video. Anyway deleted 2,000 files apparently didn't work because it now is full. Now I can't download any video. When I try I get "unable to download" no matter what I download. Now that I've deleted a lot of files, including videos there should be space for me to download.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Normally, when you download a video through RealPlayer Cloud, the video will be uploaded to cloud if the 'Upload all videos to Cloud' option is enabled in RealPlayer Downloader. In order to prevent the automatic upload, follow this steps:

https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/40461017

By disabling auto upload feature, RealPlayer won't upload files to Cloud server automatically. If you would like to manually upload files to Cloud server,

>Open RealPlayer.
>Go to PC and Cloud library.
>Select Videos.
>Right click on the video file
>Select Upload to Cloud.

Please let us know, if the issue still persists.

Hello Sean; Let me know also.  Many people purchased Real Player to download videos mostly from You Tube.  You should give this top priority.  Fred

If you are getting "Unable to download" error message from YouTube, try downloading videos using RealPlayer Cloud browser and see if that works for you. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Open RealPlayer Cloud.
2. Click on RealPlayer Cloud Menu.(at the top left corner)
3. Select File.
4. Click on Open.
5. Type the web site URL (For example www.youtube.com) and click OK.
6. Play any video and download it.

If that doesn't work, first try downloading videos from www.dailymotion.com and then try with YouTube videos.

Ok, enough of your B.S. You sold a bill of goods that doesn't work. At least not the way you advertised and that leads to False Advertisement. Yes I downloaded Realplayer Cloud and it worked downloading youtube videos, but I don't want any damn Cloud on my computer. That tells me that it can work and you are lying to us. I want Realplayed 16 plus that I legally purchased to download youtube videos with having to go to a Cloud and don't give us any lame excuse you can't do it.

Sorry for the inconvenience that may have caused.

Most of the issues has been fixed with the latest version of RealPlayer Cloud. We do have an issues with downloading videos and getting 'Download Incomplete' or 'Unable to Download' message while using RealPlayer 16. Our support team is working on it to get this resolved. When we have an update on the status of this issue, we will keep you posted.

If you still wish to install RealPlayer 16, you need to uninstall RealPlayer Cloud first. In order to do that, follow this steps:

https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23994572

Next, to install the basic version of RealPlayer 16, click on this link:

http://cache-download.real.com/free/support/win/RealPlayer16.exe

To access the premium features, follow this steps:

https://realnetworks.zendesk.com/entries/23585297

But still I would like to provide you some information about what RealPlayer Cloud is.

RealPlayer Cloud is the newest version of RealPlayer, available for customers who have an operating system of Windows 7 or higher. RealPlayer Cloud allows you to upload and share videos and play them across your various devices.

Cloud is a term used for virtual storage space. For RealPlayer Cloud specifically, if you upload your videos to RealPlayer Cloud, it will be stored in our servers. Rest assured, no one will have access to the videos in your Cloud Library except for you and anyone you choose to share them with. I recommend watching the "Get Started" video in your Cloud Library. It's a short, 3-minute video we made that highlights what you can do with RealPlayer Cloud, and how to do it.

rw0427 ,

This can occur if you burned an audio CD on CD-RW (compact disc, rewriteable) media, and you are trying to play it in a car or stereo CD player. CD-RWs are 70% less reflective than normal CDs, and many stereo and car CD player lasers are not powerful enough to read them.

To work around this issue, burn audio CDs only to high-quality, brand name CD-R (compact disc, recordable) media.

If you are using a CD-R, try these solutions:

Solution 1: Lower the burn speed.
1. Open RealPlayer.
2. Click the RealPlayer logo in the upper left and select Preferences.
3. On the left, you should see CD. Expand this by clicking the + symbol.
4. Click CD Burning.
5. Adjust the Write Speed. Decrease this to the smallest value. Generally, 4X should be fine.

Solution 2: Enable "Always Use Track at Once" for CD burning.
1. Open RealPlayer.
2. Click the RealPlayer logo in the upper left and select Preferences.
3. On the left, you should see CD. Expand this by clicking the + symbol.
4. Click CD Burning.
5. Check Always Use Track at Once.

If that doesn't help, please let us know.

I just finished uninstalling Real Player Cloud and its folders. (Although there was no Real folder in Common Files as described in the instructions on what all to delete.) I have now downloaded Real Player Cloud again. I get the same error message - unable to download - on YourTube. CNN and CNBC videos do download and play although it takes a while to start the download.
